Are you keeping up with Skincare Saturdays at the Purely Primal Skincare Blog? If not, you’re seriously missin’ out. (If I do say so myself.)
This week’s post was all about my FAVORITE detergent alternative…soap nuts (I use Naturoli)! Never heard of ’em? They might start to sound pretty darn cool when we consider what’s in our conventional detergents.
I mean, with a label like this…
…we should all be lookin’ for an alternative!
Yep, not only should we be thinking about what’s in the products we use directly on our skin in the form of cleansers, toners and lotions, but we should ALSO be thinking about what goes IN to what goes IN to what goes ON our skin. (Uhm…what?)
Just read it. I promise, it all makes perfect sense.

Although I like the idea of soap nuts, it requires a little too much effort for my taste. They’re not as effective in cold water, you have to keep to track of how many times you use each batch, and you have to remove them soon after the load is washed otherwise they don’t last as long. I’d much rather get some non-toxic liquid detergent like the soap nut extract and forget about it.
Definitely not so good in cold water! I think Naturoli has the extract too.
I *just* ordered some of these–almost literally before you posted this. They are arriving on Tuesday, and I can’t wait to try them!
Let me know how you like them!
They are pretty freaking fabulous! I am so excited to continue using them (and to stop lugging around giant bottles of liquid soap).
On an unrelated note, I listened to too many Balanced Bites podcasts in a row and ended up with a vision of chickens dancing to dubstep…so I found this video: http://youtu.be/8410qUT4QtA Enjoy!
OMGoodness Bryn…that is HILARIOUS! Hahaha…thanks for the laugh!
Hey Liz, just wondering do you reuse the soap nuts after one wash? If so, do you just let them dry in the satchel itself?
Yes and yes!
