[weird] things I love about fall!

I know people spend their entire year waiting for summer. Warmth, beaches, less clothing and sunshine – what could be better?

I get it. I really do. And I embrace the fact that I’m a total weirdo – because I actually love the END of summer more than anything!
(Especially now that I know when tick season is ‘round here. SUMMER.)
I love when the temperatures drop and the mornings are cloudy and crisp. I love it when I can’t leave the house without a fleece, warm socks and a mug of warm [insert warm beverage here: brothbuttered coffeeginger-lemon skin “tonic”].
Of course, everyone loves the best of fall: Paleo pumpkin everything, Primal, refined-sugar-free apple cider, and football season (CHIEFS). But there are things I love about fall that probably make no sense to anyone but me. Here they are:

Shopping for boots. But never buying boots.
Everybody loves boot season. But what I REALLY love is ONLINE BOOT SHOPPING. And I love doing that WITHOUT ever buying a dang thing. Fill up that shopping cart, ogle it for a moment, then click “X” and breathe a sigh of relief that I didn’t just drop hundreds of sheckles on the most fabulous, fringed, strapped-and-studded $h!t-kickers ever made. It’s exciting. It’s thrilling. It’s exhilarating. It’s like skydiving for housebound bloggers.
Then, I go put on my broken-in ten-year-old $20 boots from Old Navy and feel like a million bucks.
Smelling like burned leaves.
Everybody loves a night around a fire pit. But does everyone love that smell of burned leaves that lingers in their hair through a good five showers? I sure do.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m so familiar with the smell of burning (hello, lack of cooking skills) or because it reminds me of great times, but that smell is on my top ten list. Right after the Gap’s old, discontinued “Grass” fragrance and the smell of tennis balls.
When my face gets red.
Being out in the crisp, cold air makes my face get all red, which reminds me of that episode of Saved By The Bell when Kelly Kapowski used Screech’s zit cream and turned maroon, which makes me giggle.
I have fall spirit written all over my face.

So, seriously – am I weird? What do you love most about fall? Let’s get weird!

  1. I love everything about fall. Summer is actually my least favorite season, I never understood the appeal of sweating your face off. In fact, it’s only this year, that I started my own veggie garden, that I actually appreciated it much at all. But with fall there’s nary a thing I dislike about it. I love the colder weather, the first frost and the first snow. The colors. The sports. The flavors. The seasonal produce. Everything.

  2. How’s this for weird. I describe it at a rotting leaves fragrance. I love it!! All the leaves on the ground and kicking them up on a hike thru the woods 🙂 AND boots with leggings and oversized sweaters…and hats 🙂 okay I’m done

  3. Autumn is my favorite season too! And, dude, I’m right there with you on the fake online shopping (which is probably why my Amazon wish list has over 500 items in it).
I have to say, though, I think pumpkin is definitely my fave thing about autumn/fall.

  4. I love pumpkin everything, but I don’t drink coffee so I’m on the hunt for a good rooibos tea.
I also love boot shopping, but I never buy them because they’re too expensive for quality pairs. The cheap ones are too uncomfortable to be worth it!

  5. I am with you on celebrating the end of summer. My favorite things about fall are:
    1. Halloween. I love everything about it, especially the decorations, Halloween-themed movies on television, and Halloween episodes of my favorite shows
    2. Not sweating while drinking my morning cup of bone broth or having to put on the a/c in my car to counteract the hot beverage
    3. The smell of wet leaves
    4. Roasted veggies and apple and pumpkin-flavored everything

  6. I also love shopping for, but not buying boots.
    I also also love:
    1. Wearing hooded sweatshirts with the hood ON. All the time. Drawstrings tied. Seriously.
    2. Baking pumpkin things.
    3. Breaking out the slow cooker to make delicious stews and chili.
    4. Accidentally on purpose wearing my slippers out in public…
    Happy Fall!

  7. I’m so glad you posted this! I’m totally with you – Fall is my favorite season. I love the fog, the crisp air, burnt leaves smell, and the first day you have to turn the furnace back on. Get out the snuggly robe and slippers and sleep a little later. 🙂

  8. I love the smell of a campfire in my hair too…. and OMG that grass scent from GAP was THE BEST. I thought I was the only one who liked it!

  9. I grew up in a place where summer never showed her face. Summer was a big fat fake-ster
Fall on the other hand is totally honest and never lets you down (cool weather, rain, boots, hot beverge everything, oh yeah).
I love that you can write off an entire Sunday in the fall watching game of thrones but not in the summer without some guilt.

  10. Mmm! I love all of the fall smells and those first few weeks when the temperature drops (and then I’m over it big time…bring on spring!)
I always loved the start of school (nerd alert!) and the fall weather brings on those happy memories of opening a fresh notebook and the smell of textbooks. Fall always seems like more of a fresh start to me than the new year.
