Review: the Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook by Mickey Trescott (Video + Outtakes!)

Note: this post is going up right before PaleoFx begins! I’ll be signing books at the event at 3:30 on Friday, April 11. If you can’t be there, you can still get in on the live stream!
Before I read Sarah Ballantyne’s The Paleo Approach, which provides a comprehensive scientific overview of autoimmune disease, its precipitating factors, and the nutrient-dense way to handle it, I didn’t realize how common autoimmune disease truly is.
To give you an idea: autoimmune disease is more common than disappointing Kansas City Royals baseball seasons, goat antics on my farm, and obscure pop culture references on this blog.
So. Yar. It’s pretty common.
In Eat the Yolks, I wrote about the rise of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and stroke that has occurred right along with the “Standard American Diet” (SAD) recommendations that were supposed to help prevent them (laugh out loud).
I’m not saying the SAD causes heart disease, obesity, diabetes and stroke, but…actually, scratch that. Yes, I am. Boom goes the dynamite.
But I never thought much about the rise in autoimmune disease and its possible link to the foods we’ve been told to eat for decades. Of course, it’s more complex than all that. But the point is, it’s a growing epidemic – and the SAD sure won’t help.
(Not sure what I mean when I say autoimmune disease? You might be surprised what the word covers issues from psoriasis to urticaria, thyroid disease to endometriosis, celiac, IBS, Chrohn’s disease and even insulin dependent diabetes.)
So here’s my point: we need more resources for those dealing with autoimmunity. We need more people talking about it, so that people who don’t realize they’re even suffering from it can get help. We need more resources for implementing the nutritional approach to managing and healing autoimmune disease, and more folks sharing their stories and strategies.
Thankfully, Mickey Trescott, who is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP™) just like me, has created The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook. It’s a much-needed, highly informative cookbook that’s carving out a path for other autoimmune sufferers to follow. From the recipes to the style to the meal plans,  I love this book!

Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook Review

Mickey is a member of The Paleo Mom’s consultation team, and she has a compelling personal story about autoimmune disease recovery.
Also: she’s, like, super cool. Luke Skywalker cool. And I want to be her friend.
So here’s my video review, with outtakes, and my bid for Mickey’s friendship. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
