Podcast #86: talking Paleo pregnancy, baby & books with Arsy Vartanian, author of The Paleo Slow Cooker!

Remember – If you’re enjoying these podcasts, please leave us a review in iTunes. Thanks!

Arsy Vartanian is the author and chef of the Paleo recipe & lifestyle blog, Rubies & Radishes and the cookbook The Paleo Slow Cooker (which I LOVE). In an effort to achieve optimal health and wellness, she discovered Crossfit & the Paleo diet in 2008. Arsy started feeling better than ever and was eventually able to recover from health issues that she had struggled with for almost a decade.
When Arsy is not busy at her day job or being a mom to her new baby, you can find her in her kitchen developing healthy recipes for her family and her blog readers.

  1. I loved this episode! This is such a passion of mine, and I agree: let’s get a paleo group for fertility/pregnancy/breast feeding together! So many if my friends ask me questions and would lie to have/be part of a group to support!

  2. Hey Liz!
I share your passion for tick-hatred because my friend and I went camping years ago (1999) and were attacked. We were picking ticks off for days. Had nightmares that involved ticks. Am never going camping again.
ANYWAYS–you’re going to want your husband to check/scan all those areas that you can’t see yourself. Not to freak you out, but my BFF and I found some on each other in our lady parts. We are also convinced that this is why we are still BFF.
Good luck. Have fun. And tick season in Illinois is May and June so welcome to the Midwest!!

  3. I agree…great episode! I only wish all this info was around when I was having babies:( Looking forward to checking out this book…the main thing I use my crock pot for is bone broth, but would love to broaden my horizons.

  4. What great talking points! This was my first podcast and what a great one to start with. I have a 10 month old myself and have been Paleo for 2 years, so I had a paleo pregnancy and now have a paleo baby. I had an amazing birth experience and have a pretty easy happy baby. I too wish that more health care practitioners had a better grasp on nutrition.
I am just glad that you are getting your story out there. Most people that I talk to about my experience just dont want to hear it. They seam to think that my experiences were a fluke and that I’m in for a rough one next time. Maybe I am, but I don’t think so.
So thank you Arsy! It is so nice to hear a similar story so close to mine.

  5. You hit the nail on the head with easy baby = healthy gut. I read every parenting book you can imagine and this was never even brought up as a possibility. If only more parents could make that connection for themselves and their children, the positive effects would be amazing. My first child was a very difficult/colicky baby with acid reflux, and over time we have discovered food sensitivities (most likely inherited from my poor gut function and nutrient status). When we avoid these foods, the biggest impact we see is on her behaviour. And the difference is absolutely remarkable! My friend who has various auto-immune diseases also had a very fussy baby, with his own health issues.
