Red Boat Fish Sauce review & GIVEAWAY!

Dear Nom Nom Paleo,
You can say “I told ya so.”
Love,
Liz
I had to get that out of the way. For all the time Nom Nom has been singing the praises of Red Boat Fish Sauce, I still hadn’t tried the stuff.
I’m not sure why. It’s not the fish juice stink – I’m all about the oceanic olfaction. Give me sardines or fermented cod liver oil, I’m a happy gal. (Well, maybe don’t give ’em to me at the same time.)
Maybe it’s the sophistication of the term umami – which is that “missing taste” that fish sauce provides. It’s a taste sense that isn’t ingrained from childhood like sweet, salty, sour and bitter. Also, there are no umami candies that I’m aware of. There ARE, however, sweet, salty, and sour ones. Sweet tarts. Salted caramel. Lemonheads. (When is Halloween again?)
Anywho. I finally ordered some of this stuff, and they ain’t kidding. It’s the best fish sauce in the world.

Well, considering it’s the first and only fish sauce I’ve ever tasted, I have no way to actually confirm this. But I believe it. And with how amazing this stuff is, I probably won’t go seeking any other.
I want YOU to experience the awesome, too. Thanks to a shipping mistake, Red Boat sent me TWO orders instead of one. I reached out about the mistake, and asked whether it’d be all right to give the second order away. And they said YES!

  1. Kind of crossing my fingers for winning because the timing couldn’t be better. I was just telling someone today that I think I am going to start making more Thai dishes regularly. Lots of good wholesome ingredients, you can buy ingredients in bulk, and for the sake of time you can make a lot in bulk. Also, certain cuts of meat that I don’t like as much taste AMAZING when cooked with fish sauce, curry, and coconut milk. 🙂

  2. I have always wanted to try it, but have been too chicken (same with sardines) so I didn’t want to spend the money just in case I hated it. This would be a good way to try it 🙂 Thanks!!!

  3. woot! thanks, liz! i’ve tried other fish sauces and red boat has been on my amazon wish list for a while. hope i win!

  4. I hope im luck enough to win it.. I too am just beginning the paleo way, im moving in with my elderly and slightly senile mother in the next couple of weeks. I want to see if it helps with her memory….

    1. Darlene – google around about coconut oil and alzheimer’s, etc! You may find something worthwhile! Welcome to the Paleo lifestyle 🙂
