After several years of constant body care self-experimentation and healing my own acne and eczema, followed by obsessive research within my Nutritional Therapy practice as well as exhaustive work with my clients to heal their own acne, eczema, and troubled skin (testimonials here), I finally felt ready to put everything I know about healthy, healing, non-toxic body and skin care in one place.

This is the comprehensive guide to alternative, natural, non-toxic acne solutions, eczema, rosacea and psoriasis help, and beyond. Almost ANY skin frustration has roots on the INSIDE, and nutrition and digestive health are a huge part of the solution.

The Purely Primal Skincare Guide is about setting the foundation for healthy skin through nutrition and super-foods, supported digestion, AND a body care routine FREE of toxins and unnecessary chemicals.
Unlike this blog, my facebook page, my podcasts, the Purely Primal Skincare blog, and the other work I do that’s free access for anyone, the Purely Primal Skincare Guide IS a paid-access product. I created it to serve as a comprehensive, affordable substitute for one-on-one consultation.
There is LOTS of information available on this site for FREE, and don’t worry – I’m not withholding anything. I’ll continue to answer your body care questions here. But if you want the pieces put together for you in an easy, comprehensive form, or you’re seeking more individualized help, you’ll want the Purely Primal Skincare Guide.

  • It’s over 200 pages of guidance on nutrition for the skin, digestive health, and topical strategies for healing and beautifying the skin.
  • A special Guest Expert gives detailed information on powerful oils and combinations for skin concerns!
  • Part One is devoted to nutrition, super-foods, and nutrients that are critical to skin health.
  • Part Two is devoted to healing and strengthening digestion, organ-by-organ, to make sure good nutrition gets where it needs to go.
  • Part Three is full of topical strategies for natural, non-toxic, EFFECTIVE body care that ranges from hair to face to nails, teeth, makeup, intimate care and even home care. I tackle eczema, dry skin, acne, psoriasis and more. You get three levels of possibilities – from most affordable to most luxurious, so there’s something for everyone.

  • A portion of sales go directly to TWO non-profits: the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund AND Breast Oasis!

  1. I’ve said it on Facebook, but I’ll say it here again, you did an incredible job with the guide! It is so well-written and easy to understand. Plus, the humor and sarcasm thrown in makes it fun to read 🙂
I appreciate all of the hard work you put into it so all of us can benefit from it!

  2. Liz – I’m hoping you read this…..I am interested in the skin care guide specifically for our beautiful 3 yr. old foster daughter we adopted. She is african-american (I am not) and I need help with that kind of hair…..the gels and things that people have recommended have the worst ingredients you can imagine! She also has eczema and the dermatologist recommended straight vaseline. I haven’t been able to bring myself to do that either…..any help in your guide!?!? THANK YOU!

    1. Hi Sharon! No matter the skin color, the nutritional and digestive parts of the guide absolutely apply. As far as topical strategies for eczema, I would try the tallow balm recommended in the guide first and foremost! I am working on getting guide “correspondents” at some point later in the year for curly hair, african hair, and other special considerations, but it’s not something I can get cracking right away. That said, I do recommend Just Naturals products in the guide, and they have a whole line of products devoted to African hair. I hope that helps!

  3. Thanks for putting together this amazing guide; it’s a gold mine of information and so fun to read! I bought it a couple weeks ago and devoured the content in a couple of days. Since then, I’ve added some super-foods to my diet, chucked most of my “Big Cosmo” bath products and started using the OCM to clean my face. As someone who has been indoctrinated over the years with the belief that clear skin requires regular degreasing, the OCM freaked me out a lil’ bit – initially. Now I’m obsessed with it!

  4. Hi Liz,
I am so enjoying your book – and I hope to post a review on my blog soon – perhaps even a giveaway of a copy (hint hint)
But I had a question for ya; what do you think of this odd coconut oil that stays liquid even in the fridge?
    http://www.vitacost.com/natures-way-liquid-coconut-premium-oil
I tried contacting the company and they said the process was “proprietary” and it was not denatured…but I am a bit skeptical – it would be awesome if it was similar in properties to raw coconut oil since my house is a fridge in temp most of the year and making body care products with normal coconut oil requires a lot of work to get it out of the container and onto the skin…
I would love to hear what you think….TIA!

    1. I would love to see your review of the guide! I’m glad you’re liking it! Just let me know how I can help – email me any time via info (at) skinterventionguide.com 🙂
Regarding the coconut oil…I imagine it’s fractionated, meaning they extracted the liquid portion in the same way MCT oil is made. I don’t know much more, but it looks like they’re just calling MCT oil coconut oil since it’s derived from coconut! It’s probably not damaged, but it is isolated. I would definitely not cook with it though, and I couldn’t say whether it would have the exact same nourishing properties as un-fractionated coconut oil! Hope that helps at least a little…

      1. Thanks that is helpful – so what do you think – skip this “liquid” coconut oil and stick to jojoba, castor oil as the base and than add (depending on what I think my skin is in the mood for) Argan, Apricot kernal or tea tree oil….
I really like using coconut oil but unless I move somewhere warmer it’s not very easy to use as a mostly solid…
I’ll email you direct regarding your great book. 🙂

        1. I find that Jojoba is a little too light for many people as the second oil within the OCM, but it’s perfect as a moisturizer. Same goes for Argan. If it works for you, yay! – but just so you don’t think you’re crazy if those two light oils don’t feel perfect. I would do olive, melted coconut, sweet almond, grapeseed, or apricot kernel as your base oils and (as you said) add some “extras” depending on your skin’s needs.

  5. I just want to let others know that this book is worth it! Forget the skin bit (though that’s amazing too) because its so much more! It’s the ultimate paleo guide!

  6. Hi Liz,
I have suffered from acne all my life. It was only clear for 8 yrs because I was on oral contraceptives (It was like my “beauty” pill – frizz-free hair and nice skin, but I knew it wasn’t healthy). When I went Paleo two years ago, I decided that I didn’t want to be on the pill any longer. As expected, my acne came back full force. For the past two years I’ve been trying different paleo templates, along with the Body Ecology (Candida) diet. The BE diet worked for a year when paleo seemed like it wasn’t enough to detox my system. But for the past few months, I’ve been getting major breakouts in areas I’ve never had before (jawline) and these types of cysts had a heartbeat of their own. I started Skintervention about 2 weeks ago and within 4 days I could already see and feel my blemishes healing with NO NEW BREAKOUTS! I saw my esthetician yesterday and she was sooo excited to see my skin 95% healed. For the past few years, my skin has been the reason I’m so into nutrition (I’m even majoring to be an RD, hopefully a Paleo RD). Some days I would get so frustrated with my skin that I would break down in tears. Words can’t explain how happy I am that I FINALLY have control over my breakouts!! Skintervention is a life-changer for me! Thank you thank you thank you!

    1. Thank you, THANK YOU for taking the time to stop by and leave your comment! This means the WORLD to me, because I’ve been there and I know exactly what that is like! It’s no small thing! I would love to put this feedback on my “testimonial” page if that’s all right. Please keep in touch!

      1. I have no problem with that! I’m so glad I don’t need go full-on with GAPS diet to get clear skin. Btw, I’ll be training to be an esthetician at a holistic mini spa as well, and I will definitely direct clients to Skintervention!

        1. Michelle – please feel free to email me via the skintervention address – info (at) skinterventionguide.com – for help becoming an affiliate of the guide! If you plan on representing it to others, I want to be sure you have the opportunity to benefit from that 🙂 Reach out any time!

  7. Almost done reading Skintervention guide…Life changing! I’m becoming a fanatic about reading ingredients in my products! Propylene glycol in my sunscreen? And gluten in my hair products? What do I do now, Liz? Throw away hundreds of dollars worth of hair products, moisturizers and make-up?? ugh! I think I’m going to slowly start replacing the bad with the good! But seriously, I love this guide and am recommending it to anyone who will listen! I think you’re amazing!!

    1. Thank you so much Beth! I can’t tell you how much that means to me! It is really encouraging to hear 🙂 and yes, just replace your stuff slowly as you transition…I know how it feels to look at hundreds of dollars in products and cringe at all that money spent!
      I think YOU’RE amazing!

  8. Liz,
Amazing guide. I love all the details in it and am looking forward to following your advice to find my right solution. I’ve been Paleo since last May so I’m looking forward to the improvements that can be made with your guide.
I had two additional questions for you.
What is your take/advice on perfumes/colognes?
What about hair gels and sprays?
What do you do on these two fronts and/or what would you recommend?

    1. Thanks Michael! I’m not a huge fan of perfume/cologne, and I don’t wear perfume 99% of the time. I have an old perfume from CocoaPink.net which smells amazing, and the company doesn’t use a lot of the junk that others do, but it’s still not perfect. A few drops of essential oil could work, I suppose. I also prefer my man cologne-free 😉 but he also had a nice lemongrass cologne from CocoaPink awhile back. I just don’t trust the stuff! Hair gels – there’s a quick hairspray recipe in the guide, and beeswax works pretty well also. JustNaturals (listed in the guide) also has a few gels. I can’t say I’ve ever found a super-sticky pommade that I felt was good ENOUGH, but that’s not to say there aren’t brands out there that could work. When I find them, I’ll add them to the online resources!
Honestly, I wouldn’t judge anybody for using the conventional stuff. I have long, straight hair that actually holds curl fairly well, so I never really use anything other than a dab of oil to smooth and maybe the homemade hair spray. Hope that helps!

      1. It certainly does. I have no idea how I missed the page on gel and hairspray, but I have found it now (p133 for those playing at home). Thank you!
        Keep up the great work.
